timing chain ???

Ok i had a tick since i bought this xj some one hqd suggested timing chain strech makzs sence has 196000 miles when i did my rms i looked at it best i could wit the cover on it looks good but very loose so that concurs my friends theory now i also have a weird rms leak it only leaks when i give a good amount of gas like getting up a large hill ect. It also seems to loose power now my question is would a stretched chain cause these problems just looking for other opinions thanx

5 grand?? good power to redline eh? If you have the cover off and are lookin at how loose the chain is, your 90% job done, so replace it.

Pull the plugs and remove the distributor cap.
Put a wrench on the harmonic balancer bolt and slowly rotate the engine until the ignition rotor just starts to move.
Note the position of the balancer. Or mark it with chalk.
Now slowly rotate the engine in the opposite direction, until the rotor just starts to move.
Take a guesstimate at how far the balancer has turned....3-4 degrees is still OK for chain slop. More than that it's worn.
Put a wrench on the harmonic balancer bolt and slowly rotate the engine until the ignition rotor just starts to move.
Note the position of the balancer. Or mark it with chalk.
Now slowly rotate the engine in the opposite direction, until the rotor just starts to move.
