yea I made quite the mistake when I traded my 07 Cummins in on this POS, but it was 4x2 and I need 4x4. Plus at the time Ford was the only one who didn't claim bankruptcy. It doesn't matter now, tried to trade it in on a Dodge but they wouldn't give me enough for the trade. I'll be in a Dodge again sooner or later.! Coach

Coach, is the cylinder head sound? Could a head gasket replacement be a cost effective resolution to the water/oil salad dressing that is currently mixing up. At least keep it kickin till you have a new engine plan settled.

I looked at Rockauto and shipping was actually very reasonable. The engine runs well, very underpowered though, probably because of the 350k miles and of course the water in the oil thing. I could do a headgasket and that might take care of my issue but in my mind it would just be a bandaid. I'm hoping my refund comes in pretty soon so I can get going on this. Thanks everyone for the input!! Coach

I think since your plan is to get rid of this Jeep soon (within the next couple years) don't waste your money on a new engine, get a low mileage used motor, replace some gaskets, swap it in and be done with it.

Actually I plan on keeping this Jeep forever, I put permanent plates on it and have been trying to teach my daughter to drive in it. One day I plan on lifting it and locking it and it'll be my hunting/off road toy, but that will have to wait until I can afford to buy another daily driver. I've been driving my ford but it doesn't get very good mileage and I'm always afraid it'll break on me. I looked at used engines but because of where I live (the boonies), fuel costs would push the price up close to $1000. The only real junkyard that is relatively close (1 hour drive) has 5 cherokees but they are the original small ones with v-6's. Coach

The other problem is if there is a warranty issue, what happens? Do I have to send the engine back? If I have the local guy do it, he'll take care of it right away. His warranty is only a year though. I need to figure it out soon, my refund should be here any day! Coach

If you have a local rebuilder that you have references from and know is good, and he will rebuild for around $1500 with a one year warranty, go for it.
