Default Thumping sound when stopping.

Recently when ever I am stopping I get this thumping popping sound the feels like its under my feet. Its only when I am nearing the end of my stop like under 10 miles an hour.

I have checked all the U-joints front and rear and they all are in good shape. I recently just had my front pinion bearing replaced, as well as the front drive shaft. I also just mounted my new wheels, all in the same day.

Brakes looked good when I was mounting the wheels, so I don't think that its those.

Anyone have any thoughts?

My guess is u-joints, lose or bad calipers...You gotta figure if it's only popping when stopping first place to look is breaks then work towards other aspects that are coming to a stop at the point and could cause a binding issue to result such as axle u-joints or drive shaft u-joints.

Hmm, all that came out when they were working on the axle... Wonder if one wasn't tightened down... Well guess I'm getting wet as i pull the wheels off...

Thanks!

Yeah if it happened after a shop did some axle work I'd be going back and make sure they tightened it all up. If not I'd be calling them back and telling them to fix it.

Good point... and with any luck, JCR will not have anyone on the lift and i won't have to get wet checking it! Even if it turns out to be something else... LOL

Transmission Mount, they are prone to go bad after a few years. I have replaced both of mine and you will be surprised at the amount of vibes and knocks I don't hear anymore.

Yep I am about to replace mine this week if it warms up a bit. Easy to do as well.

Son of a monkey's uncle!

Took the XJ done to JCR to have them look it over... Turns out the vibe is coming from a bad u-joint in the rear axle...

But to add to the fun, turns out one of the studs on the passenger wheel had stripped out and was just spinning... So they had to cut it off. But they were able to replace both the stud and lug... Thanks Evil Monkey!
