Thud than engine dies?
I was driving to my girlfriends earlier today and as my jeep was shifting (it's automatic) it had two hard thuds than picked up and was fine the rest of the way. On my way home I made a right turn. Lost some engine power but it came back. Than a left turn and my engine died completely and my steering locked up. Luckily I didn't crash but my jeep don't start bak up and once it did it shut down again. After a few tries it started again and I got it home.
Is this a transmission most likely?
I've never had this issue before it just came today and scared me.
Any help or if this happened to you would be appreciated.
Thanks for your time,
Zac

It's raining to hard to go check right now. I had a quick airbag light before it occurred but tht was it. I just had it get a complete check-up at a shop and cleaned last week because my fuel line had a crack in it.
I can also add though that it doesn't die like a normal engine shutting off. It goes from on to silent. No slow run off. But everything should be fine concerning fuel lines and pumps

Sounds like your ignition switch isnt alligned right. Is your steering column loose at all? Like does the steering wheel move side to side or up and down?

I wonder if a fuel pressure test is in order. Kinda weird with the turning and all. are you on the throttle when it dies?

It almost sounds like the torque converter locking up. I worked on an old Cavalier back in the day that would stall hard when the car was stopped. It's pretty much like dumping the clutch at idle. It would lock up going down the road too and it would clunk and engine revs would drop down like it was upshifting. We just disconnected the TCC solenoid connector...

Turns out it was the cps sendin bad signals. I told the first mechanic but the diagnostic came up negative on a bad cps due to it not having memory of it happening. So the dealership caught it stalling. Than ran it and it came up. Thanks for all the help
