ok so i went 4 wheeling this weekend and about half way through i started to hear these thud noises coming from the front almost like i broke a u joint so i crawled under there and took a look at all of them and they appear to be fine. Than when i got back on the road it went away and now today when i accelerator i hear the same noise coming from the front of the car more towards the drivers side. And it only does it from a dead stop and when i kinda give it a little more gas but its not like i am slamming the pedal in. I was thinking motor mounts or transmission mounts but i would like to here what you guys think so i can look at everything all at once. If you need to know anymore info just let me know. Its a used car had it a month and its at 160000 miles and i have 6.5 RC lift and 35s that i put on.

 

it could be motor mounts, you should be able to see if they are broke,or the bols that hold the mount to the block. It also could be ball joints.

 

Was this caused by the lift and tires or just time for it to go out. Oh and before i had gone 4x4 the car would steer completely straight and handled extreme well but now it pulls really hard to the left and is pretty squirrelly.

 

I think 4wheeling had alot to do with it,I also think you know where to start your search for the problem.
When you lift them and put bigger tires and such,it adds stress to all the components,like bearings,u-joints,bushings,etc. I would just start looking with the front end jacked up and tires off the ground.

i would say the thud is prob motor mount. prob messed up your alignment goin wheelin.

 

ok just took a look at it and the motor mounts they are bad. can i drive on this or is that a big mistake?

 

If the motor mounts are gone no big problem, just go "soft pedal", check if your fan eventually hits the shroud.

 

Eventually there could be damage to your drivetrain from your motor shaking around too much but drive easy and you can delay replacing them. Check your track bar mounts, too, that may have undergone excessive stress when you were wheeling.

This statement is very true, I sheared the heads off the bolts on the passenger side motor mount, kept wheeling and drove it home before fixing it. I blew the motor not too ong after and found this......




I guarantee it was from the broken motor mount.

 

make sure you check your ball joints for the steering problem, especially with 35" tires, lots of strain on them

 

all the ball joints check out too but i checked the the steering system and found the pitman arm bolt to be loose the lock washer wasnt even collapsed and the tie rod has a lot of play is that normal for the tie rod or no?

 

There should not be any play in them at all, except for rotation so no up or down or in or out. Food for thought go through your front end and check all the nuts and bolts. And at some point in time check the hub assemble's if they have bin in there for a long time.
