throttle valve adjustment

throttle valve adjustment
98 jeep cherokee 4.0 4x4
Ill keep it short. The transmission seems to be in good condition, but has strange intermittent shifting issues.
Can someone please tell me how to properly adjust the throttle valve cable? (In layman's terms)
I have read write ups and articles out the wazoo, and for something that is supposed to be easy and fast, i'm lost.
So if someone can briefly explain what exactly i have to do, i would greatly appreciate it
