keys help please my grand Cherokee 2006 went in for new wing, insurance job, anyway the man broke my key off in the ignition he got it out ok and now im using my spare , the repair shop told me they will order the new key is it as simple as that they get the new key from jeep and it will work or will it need to be programmed to my jeep,??? please help thanks all.

They broke it, they should pay for it. If it is coming from the dealer, it "should" come ready to use, if not, they should be paying a locksmith to make it work.

If the key has a chip in it, it will have to be programmed to the Jeep so that the anti-theft system won't activate. They will need to take care of this.

You need to have the vehicle and the key to program it

thanks they will pay for it but that repair shop seems to be cowboys to me they did not clean the car very good they are seward motors in havant hants uk i had a moan at the insurance company,they said the key will take 2 or 3 days thats a week ago so il chase them up,

Sounds like they owe you an original-style key and a detail.

Don't use them again if you're unhappy with the service.

I would be unhappy.

it was a insurance job so did not have a choice where they took the car for repair, i told the insurance what cowboy they are. can you tell me any more about original style key, as i did think that was the only kind i will not be mug off by them cowboys if i know what im talking about,thank you for your help

Over here, we have a choice as to who we have do the work. At least my insurance does that.

I am not all that familiar with an '08 Grand, but the key will probably be supplied by Jeep. Then have to be programmed to your vehicle.

Have you posted on the Grand Cherokee side like I suggested?

hi im stuck on a ship at the moment with a slow internet but as soon as i get home il put post on the grand cherokee but you have been a big help
