Default Throttle cable stuck?!?!

97 cherokee 4.0 automatic and all that good stuff, basically when i let off the gas i felt the engine still pulling and realized that the throttle might be stuck and hoped it was a spring on the intake section stuck like my old carborated nova, so i stepped on it and let off real fast which used to help that car and of course didn't fix it so i had to ride the breaks to a side road put in nuetral and imediately shut off as it reved up to almost redline.

Anyway it was dark and all i can tell is that the cable attatched to the pedal inside the cabin will not pull out the slack if you will through the firewall. Hoping some wd-40 or something like that might be a quick fix but anything and everything would be of major help please!! thank you in advance.

Also the metal piece holding the cables at the intake was stuck but bringing it all the way back was no help due to the cable not going back through the firewall as i believe that it should since it has some kind of ball/washer thing to stop it.

your throttle cable doesn't say Toyota on it does it? .............................Sorry couldn't resist

Sounds like maybe either a damaged cable or (if you have it) the cruise control malfunctioned.

If it's not the throttle cable, it could be the idle air controller. I disabled it once so that I wouldn't stall out one day. Nothing like having the Jeep drive itself up highway 285 to Evergreen. Brakes loved it.

do you have a throttle body spacer? if so then you need to added steel spacers and longer bolts to the plate that attaches the throttle cable housing.

if you dont add spacers to the plate then it kinks the cable and doesnt allow it retract right

lol my girlfriend said the same thing, "but it's not even a toyota!"

anyway no to the throttle body spacer and the cruise hasn't worked since i got it. I believe it is in the steering wheel as the horn button doesnt work either but honks when i lock it but maybe it could still be that but im still thinking something is physically stopping it from retracting as it should.

anyway im off to see if i can figure it out since its day light and see about getting it home seeing as to how its the 4th and i bet there arent too many tow companies out today... lol

Success!!!! lol it turned out that the spring on the throttle piece ( dont know what it is called) was loose/worn out so it wouldnt pull the cable back where it needed to be so we stretch the spring and crimped it back on in its place and that fixed it!! Not to mention the sloppy pedal i never worried about bc now that thing is solid as a rock!! lol so all is well and i plan on probably getting the correct spring and replacing it some time this week. But thanks for the help and suggestions again.
