Default Throttle Cable

Hello Gents,

So I was driving today, noticed on a hill I had no power. When I got home I realized my gas pedal was just hovering a couple inches above the floor.

When the the pedal is pressed until it hits the floor, the cable only opens the TB about 85%. Also, when the pedal is released quickly, the cable makes an odd noise (vid-jayo below). The noise sounds like it is coming from the TB. When the cable it removed from the TB plate and I move the TB by hand and let it go. No noise. Noise coming from cable.

also, it seems there is not enough cable tension to return the gas pedal to its "home" postion. Hence, the gas pedal hovering above the floor.

I understand this is a simple system. (Caveman press pedal, "oh-ahhh, oh-ahhh". Cable make throttle body open, make engine go vroom. *hits head with tree branch".) However, I just want some second opinions. Am I missing something?

Yea that's what I'm going to do. It's a simple mechanical system gas pedal, cable, TB. Gas pedal really can't "break" it just pivots on an axis and the TB return close spring is operating properly. I was more or less trying to get a feel of anyone has any tips or tricks. I will order a MOPAR cable tonight. I heard the crown auto ones are terrible and give a really gritty feel to the throttle.

I don't know about your acceleration problem, or the height at which the pedal is from the floor, but that "noise" in your video is the same noise mine makes when I let the TB snap shut. It's just the pedal catching up to the cable.

It was my carpet! I was doing some troubleshooting and realized when I wear my work boots, since they are big, I tend to push the floor mat forward. At some point when driving it shifts back to a normal position. Thanks.

LOL, getting nicer floor mats is on the list. One that doesn't slide around would be preferable.

This is the set I was going to go with until I removed my carpet. Still might do something with them for heat insulation and sound dampening at some point.
