Default Thoughts on a new noise

Morning All. I have a 92 XJ 4.0l NP231 Auto. Just yesterday it has started with a new squeak noise. It is only there when I am accelerating, but not heavy on the pedal type of acceleration, just kind of in the middle. I also has the same noise when I am coasting down to a slow speed.

It is in somewhere from the transmission back i think....engine rpm does not effect the noise.

Also, it sounds like it is comming from the Tcase...and I power braked it yesterday and the noise was there, so not from the front end.

Any Ideas?

Thanks,
Codfish

Sounds like u-joints. At least, that's where I'd start.

If it's related to wheel speed, it may be a u-joint starting to doe, because my Jeep was making a weird squeaking a long time ago, then the squeaking stopped and the vibrations began. Then the vibes got REALLY BAD and I replaced the u-joint. Problem solved.

Just a suggestion.

I finally got off of my backside and put it up on jackstands and it is a U-joint. Back to Napa for my second new set....crap.

Thanks and Later,
Codfish
