ok guys this may be in the wrong place. i am going to attempt to fix the headliner in my 1993 xj. i got the HL out today. apparently it has ben "repaired" before from the ugly #$% camo pattern that was in it. i feel confient that i can handle the adhesive and application of new material from what i have read. my questions is the fiber material is in pretty bad shape, there is a crease/bend all the way front to back, and they did not remove dome light when removed before. reason i am concerned is i do not want to spend money on material and glue it down and the headliner not stay up. have any of you guys had some similar issues when fixing your own???
was the headliner board up to the roof correctly before you removed it.the visors and rke module if urs is so equipped the dome light should help keep it up.. depends how bad the headliner board is...

it was up but was sagging pretty badly. near front windsheild was not bad beacause of the visors etc hholding it up. the board just tore around the middle dome light. the part that concerns me the most is the bend in the board. it bends even when you try to pick it up. its from one end to the other. i may just bed line the roof???????? how much heat loss/gain and difference would this make noise wise??
when i had mine out it was horrible cause it was raining it will be hotter in the summer time and colder in the winter time cause no insluation..... hit the jy and get a new one or u could get some screen and some epoxy and reinforce the bend area....

i am thinking about making my own center over head console out of some diamond plate that i got from another project. this may help hold it up but i am just unsure about applying the new material to it. my last xj did not have a headliner and it was not that big of a deal but this one i plan on keeping and want it to be half way decent. granted i just made another post because it now will not crank so that is top priority at present time.

When I replaced mine, I took an old rag and went over the entire board until all the degraded foam was taken off. Underneath, it's a thin plastic coating. My board developed a crease, too, but the trim, lights, and visors keep everything up. However, be sure to get the spray adhesive that's designed for vehicle headliners. I did half of mine in the special headliner glue and the other half in regular spray glue. The regular glue has given way due to the heat and the material is sagging again. However, the other half that was done with vehicle headliner adhesive, is holding strong and steady. Wish I didn't try cutting corners to save a few bucks.
