Thinking of Buying...
Hey guys, so I'm pretty sure you have all read a post like this in the past, but I am thinking of getting a 98 Cherokee 4x4 with the manual trans
. I have a few questions. As far as skid plates go, what is covered
? What kind of problems would I be looking at for a Jeep with 90k on the clock? I know the 4.0 is pretty much bullet proof, but what little things do I have to look out for? Do they come with an LSD in the rear? Anything I gotta look out for with the 4wd system? Thanks a lot guys.

Look at the rear Diff and it should have a flat bottom that would be a 8.25 good diff to have.
Skid plates. Front skid protects most of your steering components as well as tranny cooler lines. T-case skid protects well your t-case. then on the rear is a gas tank skid and I bet you can't guess what it protects. That is it for OEM skids.
With 90k you have a real good vehicle there. As with any vehicle you do used do a complete fluid and filter change on everything and start a record of what you do and you should have no problem getting to 300k as long as you take care of it.
Sorry for the lack of pics. I have yet to spend the time on the whole photobucket deal, so here's the link:

Thanks for the info. I want the 5 speed because I just love changing gears, and I have had bad luck with autos.

Nice looking jeep, looks a lot like mine.
Manual isn't bad, although it can be problematic if you get stuck in mud or need to shift while climbing a big rock or something. The AX4 is a pretty solid tranny, mine's got 185k on it and still shifts nice and smooth. They do tend to run a little warm, I've heard, so an auxilary cooler isn't a bad idea.
