'96 XJ trans control module question.
Hey all, my wife has a '96 with the AW4. it has stopped shifting so she shifts it manually.
Any way I found a module and the question is do they have to be flashed per VIN or will any from that year work?

Probably just a dirty Nuetral Safety Switch (NSS). The range selector signal goes through the NSS so poor internal contact will always cause shifting issues. Pull, clean, re-grease (dielectric!!), reinstall, road test...report results here. Ya got 1 hour!! Better get busy!

If a clean NSS does not cure the problem then a new TPS will. That also regulates signals that are recieved by the ECU/TCU and as far as a new ECU fron another vehicle if it is in the right year and engine/tranny configuration it should work fine (just for future reference) but I doubt you need one for this problem.

Thanks guys, I'll have a look at the switch this weekend.
Would have done it this weekend but I was on a trail ride Saturday and sold some cj5 parts Sunday after church.
Need to get after it soon or the wife will shoot me with my own gun.
