Default Thinking Of a 3" lift.

What else has to be done for a 3" lift. Do I need an adjustable track bar? I am getting new shocks, do I need a hack and tap, or a tc drop? what about extended front brake lines? Do i need rear shims for the axle? Would death wobble be an issue, after the alignment of course. I am debating to go with a 2" bb or a 3"aal, but do not want drive ability issues.

bump...anyone? H have read different things, I am getting a rear brakeline extension, but i am wondering more about an adjustable tracbar. I want to do a 3 inch lift and not worry about death wobble.

You should be fine. You might want to get longer bump stops. Your front hoses are fine but the rear need to be extended. You can get a 95 YJ witch is 3in longer or 96 Dakota 4x4 witch are 6in longer. As for track bar, if you have death wobble then this might help. No to the tc drop unless you get vibes. Death wobble is always an issue when lifting a Cherokee. Go to carparts.com. They have a 3in RC kit for $200. It includes coils,shocks,aal,boots and hardware. Good luck.

I put Rough Country's 3" kit on my 95 Country, and I haven't had any issues with it at all. Installation was a snap, too. A few pointers, though:

  • Get the upgraded shocks; it's worth the extra money.
  • Get the new spring packs, instead of the add-a-leafs. You'll thank me later.
  • Make absolutely CERTAIN you know what rear axle you've got; I thought I had one type, but it turned out I had another and they sent me the wrong size ubolts. It was my mistake, not theirs, and I paid for it.
  • Go for a new steering stabilizer. Mine was busted all to hell and back and lacking a lot of its fluid, and I imagine yours will be that way, too.
  • Expect to cut the floor in the back of your Jeep to get to the rear upper shock mounts. This seems to be a common issue.

I didn't have to change the length of the hoses in the rear at all with my lift, but your mileage may vary. No wobble, either...nice and steady all the way up to 70 mph, though it does tend to drift a little on the interstate.

I have the same rough country lift and encountered the same problems, I would get the better shocks for sure, the junk ones will talk to you every time you hit a bump at low speeds. Its a great kit though, and not terribly expensive.

If your rear shock bolts break off then punch them out and drill a 5/16 hole through the floor board and run 3in bolts with big washers on them . Then silicone the washers so it dont leak . Its the easiest and fastest fix I found. Good luck.

I have a Zone 3 inch kit (Made by RC RE and other companies) and have a 94 XJ and all I did was shim the rear and drop the Tcase and it rides and handles fine. My son in law has an 89 XJ and used the same kit but did not have to drop the Tcase or shim the rear so every jeep is different. You will have to extend the rear brake line at least...Tj
PS Start spraying PB Buster on EVERYTHING 2 weeks before you try to loosen it...

Just did th RC 3 in on my 1994 Cherokee today. I didn't have to extend the brake lines and it drives just like it did before the lift. I had to cut the floor to get the rear shock bolts also.

go for the three, as far as brakelines, just relocate the stock ones by striaghtening the lines in the front, and you should be ok in the rear.

shouldnt need a TC drop

and the way it drives all depends on the spring rate on the leafs and coils...
