so it has cleared up here in il no more rain so i crawled under it to pre soak brake bleeders.i discovered my xj does infact have a 2 in teraflex front spacer in front and 2in shackles in back.rancho front shocks and rear air shocks.i also found that i have a dana 35 in rear and 8.25 in front.i i dont have any vibes now at any speed.i would really like sone 31s under it. so i have a mesurement of 19 in from center of hub to bottom of flare.so some v8 gc coils 4 front and some3 in shackles in rear till spring and better weather and and then build baster packs. i currectly dont do any hard wheeling mostly would be mild trails. how dose that plan sound to u guys.

Sounds good, but get rid of that 8.25 front axle...

All jeeps came with a D-30 front, So that will be your axle. The waggy D-44 is the most popular swap for the front.

The D-35 in the rear needs to go when you get a lil extra cash. Do a 8.25 or D-44 swap on it. D-44 is if you can find one they are getting more and more rare as the years pass.

I ran my D35 with 32's all through some of the tougher trails at Paragon for a few years with zero problems. Granted.. the 88 XJ's D35 was a non c-clip axle and driving style will factor into this as well.

With 31's and an easy driving style it should survive under most moderate conditions. Just try not to be overly agressive with throttle while Jeep is fighting for traction and tires hopping on an obstacle.

It's the bad girlfriend of axles... up's and leaves at the worst time.

A c-clip D35 will spit the tire, rim and axleshaft out if the clip breaks.

I see. thanks. I wont be off roading mine much so I will try my luck with it. Besides, you really only need 1 wheel per axle, it just feels better with two.

I had a corporate GM 10-bolt on a 2wd S10 Blazer that loved doing that...
Funny story how that got fixed...

Have you ever seen a c-clip break? They don't the axle breaks where it necks down.. doping the c-clip into the ring and pinion causing all kinds of un-named other problems..

Sorry had to call you out on it...
