Default Thermostat housing leaking

I recently replaced my radiator and while I was at it, i went ahead and replaced my thermostat. Everything was fine until I started to put the thermostat back in. I fastened the housing back in and starting adding coolant and the coolant began to leak from the base of the housing. I tried a new gasket, and it's still leaking.

Can someone give me some advice on what to do in order to get a solid seal? What materials do I need to use? What order do I need to reassemble, etc. Thanks in advance.

A little sealant holding the thermostat in guarantees it doesnt fall down behind the housing.

In the case thats not your issue , try taking the housing and sand it smooth on the mating face. A stick pad type sanding disc works good on a flat workbench.. lay housing flat on it and sand the high spots out. Or you can get a new housing.

I'v also had luck doubling up a gasket if they are thin.

AS said just make sure all ther old gasket material is off. I learned this the hard way and broke a housing.

I've got a new housing. The old one was chipped and the hole for the lower bolt was not complete. I will try a little sealant to hold the thermostat in place and will double up on te gaskets and give it another try.

Thanks for the advice, I'll let you know how it goes.

Thanks for all the advice. I made sure that the housing and the block were clean and dry. I then used the "Make a Gasket" sealant on the housing and the block and let it cure for 24 hours. After I did that, it solved all the leaking problems.

Thanks.
