Are there any radiators that ......
mount on to an XJ but are not meant for the XJ?
Ther reason I ask is that the PO installed a radiator but the holes in the crossmemeber do not line up (had to drill new ones) with the studs on the radiator spacers and the radiator is sitting at a slight angle and the cap mount is butted up against the air filter box.
I can straighten out the radiator and drill new holes, but then the cap is sitting on the crossmember and is hard to remove and install.
The cooler lines and hoses hook up fine.
Thanks.

Just go to AutoZone and buy a new one they are a good radiator for under a $100 with a OEM fit. My son and I both have one and both run cool even in stop & go traffic and on the trails.
Not worth the problems of modding and using a radiator that wasn't meant for your XJ to begin with.

When you pull it out, see if you can locate a label with a part number and Google it to see if it cross-references with anything. Or call your favorite parts store and see if they can check the number. Mine has a replacement rad and I can see part of a label under the upper bracket.
The only writing on it is on top, its some illegible numbers.
I am thinking maybe the Crossmember is the wrong one????
The car is white, original color and the crossmember is black, Is that
common?
Is there a model that used a slightly different crossmember?
Thanks.

Ive run into this issue a few times with the champion radiators available on ebay. The filler neck is often too short causing you to have to trim out of the top crossmember for cap clearance, or you need to re drill the 2 little holes for the studs on the top of the radiator. You can then slope the top of the radiator back to give more clearance for the cap. Best bet would be to buy an oem style replacement. If everything else is working properly, there is no need for an aftermarket radiator
Thats exactly what I had to do, is to drill holes about a 1/4 inch next to the
holes that the studs are supposed to go through.
And to get the radiator to not sit back at a slight angle i was thinking just
that, Cutting out a little notch so the cap doesnt rest on the crossmember
and then drill two new holes in it to accomodate the new location.
I found this page using numbers off my crossmember that show I do have
the correct one.
