TH350 issue
OK, so this isn't a cherokee question but if anybody knows where to start trouble shooting this issue it's the good guys at CherokeeForum.
73 K5 Blazer 350, TH350, 205 Tcase, 12 bolt rear with 3:73,
I've been working on this truck for 1 year now. started it every week or so to keep the blood moving in her but never put in gear. so yesterday after about 6 months of not moving under her own power (beacuse it was in winter storage) i put the TH350 in reverse.. nothing. in D... nothing. 1st, 2nd, D... nothing. 5000RPM for engagement... nothing.
The Tcase is NOT in Nuetral so stop right there 30 post people. and yes i the truck is running, i'm not just sitting behind the wheel making motor noises.
I have yet to crawl under and and check the Modulator or the Governor and subsiquently i'm not sure if vaccum might be the issue yet but while i'm under there what else should i look at?

OK I'm sure you checked that it has fluid. The vacuum modulator will not keep it from going in reverse only from upshifting from 1-2 unless you reach a certain rpm. Check the linkage, make sure it did not pop off.

Is the transfer case in neutral?
JK. Couldn't resist.
If you look at the dipstick before starting it, and compare that reading to where it is on the stick after idling in P or N, are they the same level or different?

Stop sitting behind the wheel making motor noises and start the engine.
Does the parking pawl disengage when you shift into gear? If so the linkage isn't completely disconnected. Cruiser's fluid check is a good idea, if the linkage is OK you probably either have no line pressure or a stuck governor or valve.
I assume neither the motor or tranny has been removed since it last operated correctly?

Yeah check the linkage and make sure it's actually changing gears.
Is it possible that the tail shaft has come loose, and the trans is actually shifting, just not engaging the drive shaft?
