Default Temperature (not at 210)

I have had my jeep for a few months. I had to replace the entire cooling system essentially. Everything has worked well, the car used to heat up to 210 in no time, but now it only gets to around 150-160 max.

Any thoughts? Thermostat stuck open? Coolant sensor bad?

Thanks guys!

And why is this a bad thing? As mine seems to enjoy being at 220 I would love to see a 160 regular reading.

I've had a 165* thermostat in mine for almost a year now, but I lived in Oklahoma and my jeep ran at about 190* down there!! I live in Oregon now and had to replace it with an OEM temp thermo just to get her up to temp..... TRUST ME IT IS NOT WISE FOR HER TO B RUNNING AT 150-165*!!!! By switching back the oem thermo up here I not only gained 2mpg that i lost coming up here but also regained some throttle response as well!! A lot of things have changed in the way she runs up here compared to the way she ran down there in terms of the temperature issue if anyone wants to know specifics just pm me, I'm on here more than I probably should b so I can answer pretty quickly....

There can be inaccuracy between the sending unit and the dash gauge.

Get an infrared point and shoot thermometer (widely available now inexpensively and all shops have them) and point it directly at the thermostat housing. Then you will have confirmation of the actual coolant temp.

And if that thermostat has 50k on it, replace it. I buy my stats from Jeep and also like the Stant SuperStat. 195 degree stat only.

The thermostat is like 3 months old. The heat seems to be working fine. The top hoses all seem to be getting warm, so it appears to be cycling the fluid fine.

I am kinda at a loss. Should I just replace the thermostat and give it a try?

Mine has run at 210 for months with a stock 195 OEM thermostat. I think that is pretty normal.

If your heater is working good, seems like the t-stat is doing it's job.....so maybe a false gauge reading. The t-stat can be tested in a pot of water on top of a stove using a cooking thermometer. Like tj said, u need to verify coolant temp....gauges/sending units get whacked just like anything else mechanical.
