My head gasket is fine, I mean there is no leaks around the head or anything. But I just don't see how the fan can make it get hot like that. My water pump is about 2 months old so I know that its fine. And I hot wired my fan because it would not kick on automatically.

sorry I read yours after I posted mine...I also had alot of air in the system after I changed my t/stat...that caused alot of problems with overheating and that's how I found out my water pump was gone...but the air was the problem along with my water pump

i would pull the hoses and t-stat and flush out the block. put the t-stat back in making sure it is in correct and drain the rad flush it out of any old junk fluid or what not then get new hoses hook it all back up and put in a new mix of 50 50 water and coolant run the motor until the t-stat comes to temp and it will get the air out and new fluid in then refill and repeat until it stays at the correct level in the bottle. if this does not work then you have an issue some where else

I was reading a thread about the plastic fan shroud on the main fan, mine doesn't have 1 either could this be one reason it gets hot!!!! It never had one when i bought it, I didn't think it really made a difference.

Has it run hot like this since you bought it? Did you buy it in the winter and this is your first driving in warm weather? If not something changed... You'd have to then think that the missing shroud isn't causing it.
Think back to the day you started to have the problem and what took place that day... Didn't you say it started after you replaced the thermostat? If so... That's where you need to start.

Just another thought. How hot was it running when you decided to replace this? After you replaced it did it run hotter or the same?

Yes it would run hotter than normal so i thought the t stat wasn't working so I changed it, but it still didn't change anything. It still runs pretty hot. What could it be.

Ok.
When the motor is coming up to temp do you see a nice gradual sweep of the needle then at 210 degrees it opens the thermostat and drops back to 200 or so? Or does it just steadily increase after 210 to the point where your way past 210? I would say if it tries to keep it at 210 for a while then looses the battle that you might then try kicking on the heater to high, fan on high also. If that brings the temp back down then my guess is you may have restricted flow somewhere.
What could that mean?
Might have air in system. Very common after servicing the cooling system.
Maybe needs a flush, "done properly".
Radiators wear out or become clogged. Can't remember beginning of thread, maybe you replaced that. Might need that.
Might be the water pump. Do you know where to inspect that for leaks? Have you had to add coolant? What was the coolant level when you serviced the stat? If low then we need to find out why...

ok i can almost for sure say that its the fan clutch. the fan clutch control how the fast6 the fan would spin to really cool the engine. have you checked it out at all? mine has a 3core radiator HD water pump new hoses and EVERYTHING! and a 160* t-stat. except i havent replaced the fan clutch and now it gets a little warm goin up the mountain i live in. otherwise is normally fine. im telling you to check the clutch fan out . do the test i decribed earlier. otherwise start buying parts and eliminating the possibillities. you could also buy test strips to see if exhaust gases are getting into the cooling system. they are cheap and most parts stores

OK I went outside spun the clutch fan and it spins fairly easily, it had a little resistance but not much. So would this be my problem.

you should have bench tested the T-stat you also should not have "hot" wired the fan to a switch....the fan draws more amps than that switch is rated for im sure. your just asking to burn something up...............The fan will come on normally around 220* and is not reliant on the A/C for it to function. I suggest you put on a new sender or a mechanical guage.

Do you have another cherokee or car with a clutch fan you can check that you know is good so you have something to compare yours to?
Also... Do like 98 Jeep Jeep said... do some testing and thinking about the situation. Go through step by step and you will find your problem. Trouble shooting is a process not a throw at a dart board... Sorry, didn't mean to sound like your Dad or Teacher or something...
