I chased this problem for a week or so and it was the tcu i went to a jy and found 2 one had a yellow sticker and one was red.just match the color my 89 was yellow and both 90s are red

Awesome man. Hopefully that's my problem bc I'm so tired of having to shift it like it is now. It just don't feel right lol. Hopefully the one out of my buddies jeep will work bc he will most like let me just have it.

The one from the 88 may well be OK. I doubt the other matches. Don't forget Cruisers post #5. I bet a guy could back probe there at that grey connector to see if the wires to the solenoids are getten juice....as well...

Pretty sure he meant the 88 is good to go. (at least for your test).

87 to 90 TCUs are interchangeable, with 88 and later being the most desirable units.

I found a 89 Cherokee Limted one for free. Put it in and now it works. Thanks for all the help guys!

Cruiser taught me at least half of what I know here. You are welcome in any case! Yea, a TCU fail is rare but happens. We all should acknowledge that wires and their connections are often the issue, just the act of removing and replacing something might fix it.

Unhappy Tcu plug wires came out

Hey guys i need some help, i had to remove my tcu to replace it and in the process of doing that the wires from the plug came out of their slots! if anyone has a diagram or know where to find one please Reply or Shoot me a PM. thanks
