Default TCU interchange

This may be one for Crusier54 or anyone else with knowledge of the TCU used in 90 XJ's.
Did a lot of poken around the last few days, and testing. Seems like my TCU is shot or so indicated by the tests. Going to the junk yard in April to see what I can find. My question is "What years are interchangeable"?

Also what is a good brand of scanner to use, Amazon list all kinds of one's??

It's pretty rare, but they do fail. It's way more likely the TPS is bad or out of adjustment. Mine was replaced by a professional shop that didn't adjust it! (the PO did that). Also it has a fuse on the harness near the TCU.

Cruisers tips are right on top in my sig. Checking/cleaning grounds and following the TPS adjustment instructions would be a good start if you are having shifting issues. 87 to 90 probably interchange....
