Hot air blows on driver's feet with AC/heat off and window open
Hey all,
I've been having an interesting problem that seems fairly unique (search yielded no relevant results). My AC/heat functions work decently when I turn them on, however when I have them off and open a window hot air blows on the driver's feet almost as if it is being sucked out of the vents from the engine bay. When I either shut the window or turn on the AC the problem instantly goes away. Does anyone have any ideas as to what would be causing this?
Thanks,
Matt

You've got to put some more information either in your profile or in the message. Need year of Cherokee at least before people can help.

you could try turning the heat off and turning it to either cool or warm position, and if your jeep is equipped (not all are, some older models arent) try turning on the re-circulation that should help.

Is it at the driver's feet only or is it coming out other registers as well?

Matt, are you sure the heat is coming from the floor vent and not a hole in your firewall? I've had the same symptoms, but after looking under the dash, I found a hole in my firewall that is normally plugged with a rubber grommet. After stuffing a rag in the hole and test driving, the unwanted heat went away.

Fixed that one and realized that my shifter boot (manual trans) was torn as well, and the negative pressure was sucking hot air into the cap. Fixed it with duct tape and seems to still be OK.

x2 - there is a rubber "skirt' directly accross the transmission tunnel, between the passenger and driver footwells. Mine was torn and leaking hot air into the cab with the windows down.

I think I used Gorilla Tape to seal it up real well - mine was leaking so bad that the shift arm for the transfer case and my manual transmission were burning hot to the touch. Plus my feet were on fire
