tailshaft leaks atf
Hi guys, I'm really new to a jeep and I noticed it's leaking atf from the th housing around the end of the tailshaft. I figured it's probably a seal. Any pointers on fixing it?
Okay so I got the drive shaft out no problem. But, how do you get the old seal out? I've tried with a flat head but I'm not really sure where the seal starts and the housing the ends. Just keep at it with a flathead or is there a trick? Does anyone have a Part# for that seal, the one I got from autozone looks too small.

You should tell us exactly what transmission and/or transfer case you are working with. That way we might show you pics or offer other advice specific to what you are doing...

Harbor freight tools, sears, or autozone, "Seal Puller" looks like a small hatchet ice picky thing. it will pop that seal right out.
good luck! should be an easy R & R, just ensure you get part from JEEP not autozone, they dont have the right one.
when installing set in carefully light taps with ball peen hammer until it is pretty much square then using small block of 2x4 (maybe about 3 inch in length), use the 3 in flat surface against the new seal and drive it flush with a hammer, that should seat the new seal proper, then re-install drive shaft and yer done!
cheers!

The output shaft seal housing IA made of aluminum which will crack / chip very easily, especially using a flat tip screwdriver(experience).

Thanks for all the help guys, amazingly enough, I managed to pull it off. I have another question but maybe I should start another thread. Anyway, mmy cousin was driving the jeep and downshifted into 1-2(it's automatic) and the tranny started kinda buzzing, then we shut it off and it started grinding, sounded like the 6th piston was hitting the cylinder wall.
