Tailgate

So... I can't get it open. The handle pulls but does not release. Any suggestions?

Not sure on the 97+ but on pre 97's you can yank the trim off the hatch from the inside and open it. You say you can pull the handle, but does it feel like anything is connected to it? Any difference with it locked/unlocked?

I need to pull the handle and push in a certain spot at the same time to get it to release.

In my XJ steel clip didn't hold top of rod.
I tried to use some wire to "help" that clip w/o much luck. I was driving my Jeep with removed trim in case lock stops working again.
The only cure, I think, is to replace that clip.
