I had a bad leak where the drive shaft mates with the tranny. A while back, I changed the little $10 seal in there - pretty easy even for a newbie. It does not leak as bad, but it still leaves a spot.
I am certain of the location.
My question: Did I scratch something in there, or warp the new seal? Is there another seal deeper in that I need to address? What might cause a brand new seal to leak like that?
Thanks..

I assume it's a 2wd Aw4?
You could have nicked the seal, the drive shaft could have nicked the seal, the output shaft bearings could be going bad and allowing the output to wobble around..
There's quite a few different issues it could be.

There is a bushing in the tailshaft that wears out. So even with a new seal it can leak. I think you can still get them from Chrysler, but if not I'm pretty sure we get ours from omix.

Yes - 2wd. I guess output shaft is correct terminology. Where are the bearings you mention? How do I test them? I could replace the seal again, and inspect the surfaces for nicks, but I don't want to just throw parts at it, I want to fix it.
Thanks!
Thanks!

Sorry for the shot gun questions - this stuff is all new to me. I am just trying to keep my kid's car on the road without spending $$$$$
Thanks again.

You have to remove the tailshaft and carefully hammer/press the old one out and new one back in
