All i know is, when my jeeps power is OFF, the guage points slightly above the first mark (100). then when i turn the ignition on, even after a long drive, it points below 100.
I know the T-state on the engine IS working, because the jeep hasen't exploded. Also, when the jeep is cold, the aux fan is not running, then after a drive it is on. Then stops when the engine cools back down.
I haven't done any recent work to the guages, or the engines computer or anything. I can't even remember when i first noticed this, but it was a while ago.
So what should i check first? I checked the wires behind the guage cluster and everything is fine. I don't want to go spending money on a new guage just to find out it was a connection under the jeep or something.

There is a temperature sending unit, I think on yours it is on the thermostat housing itself, that most likely has gone bad. I have an "88 and the temperature sending unit was on the back of the head by the driver's side. When mine went bad it was saying the car was overheating but it was actually right at operating temp. I had no signs of overhaeting. Be careful where you get your replacement, the first one I got new from Checker O'Reiley and it was defective, it gave me the same reading. Maybe somebody has a suggestion on where to get a good one, I can't remember where I got the good one that I put on the car.

HA, the Temp sender was fine, just the clip on the cable for it broke so it popped off. It was hidden behind my injector rail so i didn't see it before.
BTW, it was rear mounted, Thanks!
