Default T-case or Tranny noise After lift...

I have a 2000 XJ with a 4.0, aw4, np231, and a recently installed RC 4.5" lift with a t-case drop...

Well i have been driving it for about a month and a half with the lift on it and i have gone around a tightened everything again... But im getting this weird noise coming from around the t-case area... It only happens when the g-forces are in nuetral or under light braking. So if i let off the gas or if im coming to a stop sign... It sounds alomst like a bearing or a couple marbles getting tossed around. It doesnt happen at any point during forward motion or under hard braking. And i dont have the front driveshaft in right now so thats out of the question and I dont have any driveline vibes from the rear, just this one noise.

I was thinking it might be from the output shaft in the T-case because their was less spline to play with..and its just the slips vibrating on the shaft because of play in the splines.

What do you guys think?

Weird, does it sound like a light "clunck clunck" ? when pressing the brakes ? I just started to notice that same sound on mine. I have an 87 5spd with a 4.5 Rusty's and TC drop.

On yours, do you have the metal shims on the rear axle? As i do on mine.

Can you see your axle flexing up and down ? (have a buddy start to go while you watch the rear axle.)

Humm, we'll get this figured out. Besides i'm still learning and after talking to the more seasoned cherokee owners, I guess we will be for awhile.

As for shims... It only has the ones that came with my springs, which are like 2 degree or even 1.5.

I take it your refering to axle wrap. It just doesnt feel like that because when i let of the gas even if im going slow, as soon as there is slack in the driveline it make this nasty grindy gargleing noise...

I still have this stupid noise!! I cant figure out what it is!

Could it be an output shaft bearing? Would an SYE fix that?

Could it be slack in the axle gears? How would i check that?

Ive looked at all the tranny mounts and they all look to be in pretty good condition!

I too am having issues with my 5spd Transmission after lifting it 3". It sounds more like a rattle when im in 5th gear, and gets louder when I accelerate. I finally took my rig to a shop and the guy says it may be bearing. ugh. I don't have the cash for this right now. And like the both of you, I too am a VDub guy gone Jeep. Air Cooled that is. Cheers!

Not to jump on the train but i am have the same noise after i installed my rusty 4.5" with 6 degree shims and a 1" t case drop. mine happens around 40-50 mph if i let off the gas and start slowing down. it doesnt happen all the time. JMO i believe you are right Miglia-spyder. I beleive after the lift the yoke slide further back on the spline towards the end making less connection between the two and the sound is coming from there after pressure from the gas pedal is released from the spline. i may have my parts backwards but that just what i am thinking. i also believe a sye will fix the issue. i am just saving up for one now. it may be a month or so. if anyone else fixes there issue please keep us updated and i will do the same

Cool t-case noise

Hello all, i read some talk about less "splines" to work with on the output shaft after the lift, this is true and a sye will fix this, buta cheap way ( this worked for me) assuming you have a 97 - newer jeep it has a 8.25 rear axle and either a 231 , or 242 tcase, this causes a shorter driveshaft length than previous models. i used a shaft from a 88 laredo with a dana axle in my 98 with the 8.25 and 242 tcase , shortened the yoke by about 1". now no shake or noise on accel
