Anyone have any good links for write ups on swapping out the np231?

Im just putting in another 231 cause I dont want to mess with rebuilding it.

Just disconnect the drive shafts from the xfercase and support the trany,then remove the bolts that hold the trany to the xfercase and remove it,it is easier if you lower it a little so you can get to all the nuts. Trany jack works alot better than floor jacks
Make sure you drain it first and remove the electrical connectors.

What do I need to disconnect the drive shafts? And should i remove the cross member that holds the tc, then use another tranny jack to lower it as much as i need to?

The drive shafts are just held in by nuts or bolts depending on the style.
The cross member needs to be loosen so you can drop it down enough to get to all the nuts,some ar a pita unless you lower it.
When you remove the driveshafts be very careful not to drop the caps off the u-joint you will scream trying to put the needle bearings back in,once they are off use some tape to hold them on. Just take some time and look at it close and you will see it is not that bad to remove it.
You will need to disconect the shift linkage to.
