There are gaskets you can buy to seal the case but i just use silicone gasket maker. Make sure you get some that is specifically made to be ATF resistant. I use a brand called "the right stuff", worked great when i did my rebuild.

There are also the little plastic/rubber things that are on the shift forks.

And a good set of snap ring pliers and lots of patience. Those snap rings can be a pita

Good luck

no doubt. those and getting the case to align correctly, for some reason, took me a long time.

You should put in new sprockets with that new chain.

X2 on the silicone

NOW is a good time to throw a SYE in....hehehe

LOTS of rags.
SEVERAL cans of Brake Cleaner.
Tube of assembly lube. (Works great for the seals)

Good rubber mallet is a PLUS.
And as much patience as you can scrounge up.

Before removing it from the vehicle: After removing front driveshaft. Drop it into 4wd (Hi or Lo) and loosen the front yoke retaining bolt.
It can be a royal PITA anytime after this, especially on the workbench.

I just got done rebuilding my NP231.
Had some issues with it before it got yanked. (Snapped the rear output shaft retaining clip caused major carnage inside)
Installed a Advance Adapter Slip-Yoke Eliminator and the proper speedo gear.
Used my original front shaft, that was rebuilt two months ago, in place of the rear driveshaft and I am currently rebuilding another to throw on the front.

Use "good" black silicone. Why BLACK? After you have it back in, the black disappears under the fresh dirt and new grease/oil

Link below is what I found for google search "np231 master rebuild kit" Is this enough? I've never opened a T-case before so I don't know what to look for.

Right now it sounds like grinding when I accelerate quickly from a stop or when going up a steep hill (offroad) I thought a T-case rebuild would cure that noise.

Whats the best way to get the T-case seperated from the 99 xj classic stock?

http://www.quadratec.com/products/52270_104.htm

Thanks guys
