t case help needed
I have a 1992 Cherokee Sport. My t case has hole in the bottom and needs to be changed out. I have an AX15 (manual) transmission and am having trouble finding a t case out of another manual Cherokee. Can I use a t case out of an automatic since they are so easy to find or am I going to have to change the input shafts out due to spline count? Will the drive shaft have to be changed due to length problems? Should I have any other worries about using a t case with my manual trans out of an auto? Thanks for any help in advance.

T-case should be the same as long as you get one from a XJ not any other Jeep model. You also have to match the T-case model (231 or 242) and it needs to be a 91-96 for the thing to be a bolt in with no modifications.
DS should also be the same as your stock one if you are missing the one that came with your Jeep. If not you can re-use your original shaft.

If your looking to swap inputs you can use any matching T-case(242, 231) from any XJ, ZJ, MJ, TJ, or YJ there all the same other than the input shaft..
Hope that helps.
Info is based on how many I have swapped....

T-case clocking is slightly different from one model Jeep to another but Nick is right you can use other models.

The clock was only different on the S10 version of the 231. I had never heard of any clocking difference on any of the others.. If any may be from the YJ cause of the leafs in the front...
But this might be a topic for me to dig into more..

The clocking difference if from the bolt hole location in the tranny's not from the T-cases, SO if your using the same tranny your in good shape...
Thanks Blue you lead me to learn something new tonight....

Thank you for all your info. Sounds like I'm not limited to finding a t-case out of a jeep with a manual tranny. If I'm reading this right, I just need to make sure that it is out of a Jeep from 91-96. Also make sure it's a NP231 like the one that I am taking out.

Again, thanks for the help.
