searched...might need o2...you tell me
Hey Guys and Gals,
Well last night I was driving my cherokee out to my brothers house to watch the fights when my ride started acting up. I was holding steady at about 65-70 on the highway when I noticed a slight bucking/surging. It started out not being so bad but after a couple of min the check engine light came on and $h?T hit the fan. I slowed down and called AAA (I thought once I got out of the vw game I would be done with needing a tow) and had them tow it to my buddys shop while I watched a pretty good night of fights.
I tried the search and came up with a couple of possiable causes but thought I would get your input first. I just did a tune up with all the goodies a couple of weeks ago and have had no problems since. To tell you the truth I was just checking the fluids the other day and everything looked good. My sister was the org. owner and she never had any problems. The rig only has 80,000 miles and has been taken very good care of in that time.
Thanks for any help
John

not that far along yet. I have never owned anything that you can plug in and get codes. Doing the search I saw a bunch of codes listed and I'll be sure to refer back to that when that time rolls around.
Does bucking and all that other fun stuff sound like the 02 to yall. The only other time I had an 02 fail (again on a vw not a jeep) I noticed clouds of smoke and poop for gas mileage.

I doubt its the O2 sensor, the check engine codes will tell you whatever went wrong or is wrong.
O2 sensors dont just "go bad" they decrease in effectiveness over time. At 80k I doubt that they are bad or defective to the point that they need replacement. Besides that, you have three at about 65 bucks apiece its a pricey fix...
Like someone else said, if you can drive it to Auto Bone take it there and have the codes read, they will do it for free too...

You need to have a sit down and try telling that to my '98. That thing eats O2 sensors. I've owned it since it was new, and I've put in like 5 of the damn things already...

The good thing is no auto bone for me...my friends shop has all the goodies that I need to plug in and get the code. I was just wanting to get a heads up on what went wrong.

Just try the code scan, that is about the only why I can think of off hand to start narrowing down what could be the cause.

Well my friend took a look at it and got a code (something like po123...not sure but kind of sounds like it) and did a little looking around. Him and his dad figured that is was the clock sensor (not sure if he said sensor but it was located under the air bag) that had gone bad and needed to be replaced. Picked it up tonight and everything is working just like new. The good news was my friend did not charge me anything for the labor. The bad news was the new clock sensor cost big $$$.
