Default Sync signal generator symptoms?

Hi,
I have a 92' Laredo with 115K miles on it and it's been a great car (my third jeep!). this weekend i changed the dizzy, wires, plugs, and rotor. the plugs looked like pretty worn but everythig else looked good and the car started and ran fine.

After changing out the parts (and gapping sp to .035") the darn thing wont start.

I get good spark, I have the timing set at the correct position (rotor at 4 o'clock at TDC on compression stroke), and I've tried priming with carb cleaner and gas in the intake and still not even a pop.

all i can think of is that the when I was changing the dizzy one of hte hold down screws got cross threaded in the body of the dizzy and broke off in it (cheap tune up kit from Summit). I had to take out the dizzy and drill out the broken screw and re-tap.
when I put the dizzy back into the motor it no longer lined up in the position that it was removed in. I couldnt figure out why so I rotated motor to TDC and put everything back together (including the distributuroe cap snug on the distributor body). and now it wont start even with spark, fuel and correct timing.
my hunch is that I messed something up in the distributor when I was drilling out the bad screw and as I look at the service manual the "sync signal generator" looks to be a potential candidate...I just dont know that much about them.
so, if your still reading this , can someone tell me if the SSG could cause these symptoms?
I've done a search under sync signal generator but havent found anything specific to my symptoms...the OP always either doesnt have a spark or does and the motor pops or runs rough. did similiar search for crank shaft position sensor and still nothing.

one thing I noted in service manual which I didn't do is I didn't disconnect the negative side of the battery before I removed the distributor (and disconnected the stator harness). could I have done something bad to a sensor by not disconnecting the battery first? I"m grasping at straws here.

thanks for taking the time to read.

Charlie

Try this:

And, on your 92 it's not a sync signal generator. that's a term for the 90 and earlier Renix system.

Didn't you mention the rotor was pointing to 4 o'clock when on number one TDC?

Yep, that's the right perspective.
Got spark, fuel, and proper timing but i cant even get a pop out of it. Im thinking its gotta be a sensor in the distributor got fouled when i was removig broken screw

Time to eat some humble pie.
Turns out my timing wasnt set up
Right.
The blade on the rotor needs to be just past #1 terminal on the dizzy, i had it set up just before the terminal, about one tooth off. Started right up.
