Hey all,
Just saying you are much better than the other jeep forum I asked my question on.
It would make sense that my fan is coming on because I almost always leave my heater on defrost, so that would indicate the use of the compressor and the electric fan. The couple of times before I had the issue of the fan running even when the car was off, I found that if I turned off the heater a few miles before I got to my destination the fan would go off with the car, so this all makes sense.
I pulled the relay, and didnt notice any corrosion, so I am going to go to the store and just pick up a new relay and try this out.
Lastly, Firestorm... I tried jumping my car for about half an hour yesterday with my wives vehicle, and we weren't able to get it up to charge. Would you recommend having roadside assistance do it because they have better equipment?
Thank you all.
I will come back when I have the new relay installed.

That could be.......I'll have to look in the FSM for numbers......but I'm pretty sure the compressor on our '98 engages, at least briefly, when ambient is less than 40F. If the compressor engages, so does the efan.

I suppose they have overcome the problem of the system itself icing up by using blend doors now.
Original Poster, you need to remove your battery and have it load tested. It sounds like a cell or cells have shorted out internally. If that is the case, then a new battery is required.

That's the purpose of the Low Pressure Compressor Cycling Switch on top of the Accumulator. If the Evaporator ices up the switch will cycle the compressor off to alow the ice to melt. Then, once pressure returns to spec the switch will close and run the compressor again. "Cycling" the system on and off.

You guys are great.
I have learned a lot about my car that I didnt know, and I appreciate all your help. I replaced the relay (easiest fix ever) and the fan went right off when the car was turned off. I got the car started by having roadside assistance jumping it. I guess it need some more juice from a generator rather than my wife's highlander battery.
Now that all of that is fixed, if I suspect that coolant is coming out of the weep hole in the water pump, how urgent is this fix? It seems like it is very slow leak. Am I mostly good as long as I top off the coolant every so often, or could this fail and cause a lot more problems? I currently dont notice any noise or grinding. It is a bit challenging to realize how much it is leaking with the rubber guard underneath the car.
Thanks.

Haha get the point guys. I will work on that when I get back in town. Looks like a pretty easy swap so that should work well. Once again thanks for the help to keep my jeep on the road.
