Default 98 cherokee Brakes

Hey guys so I bought a 98 cherokee classic knowing that the brakes were not well. I assumed it was the pads so I replaced those with no luck. Then I found a broken brake line so I fixed that with much frustration. Now I have stiff brakes when the jeep is off just like they normally would be, but as soon as it's running it acts like there's air in the system. Ideas? I tried to bleed the calipers but being so old the bleeder screws broke off before I could get them open. Thanks guys.

You definitely need to flush/bleed the brake fluid..................
Removing a section of brake line, and installing a new one has introduced a bunch of air into the system.............Not to mention, your old fluid has probably absorbed moisture over the years..............

Unfortunately for you, the only way to do it is with bleeder screws that open........

You will most likely have to replace the calipers and wheel cylinders if none of the bleeder screws will open...........

Fortunately, these parts are relatively inexpensive, and should be found in-stock at most any auto parts store..................

Then flush/bleed the system according to proper bleeding techniques..........

Thanks for info however after 15 hours on it yesterday trying to get it to stop I gave in and just brought it to my trusty mechanic. He can deal with it.

Sounds like a good call on your part as that is what I did with my 99 sport when I bought it. They had been neglected for too many years before I bought it and needed new extended brake lines also, Replace all parts with new ones and for the pads use "Hawk" brand for a real stopping improvement over stock ones.

Brake systems are like plumbing......you rarely get away with replacing just one part.

Back to dping it on my own. There's no way I'm paying someone over 5p0 dollars to do this. I'll figure it out.
