SYE, Shim...vibration help
I have read and searched all that I can, and still need a little help for my personal experience. Just installed a 4.5" RC lift, full packs, all adj etc, 1" transfer case drop...have a Auto Trans/NP 242/Chrysler 8.25 and now have tremendous vibs where u-joints are pinching on driveshaft. I've read about the hack-n-taps and tom woods sye's...I'm looking at getting the Tom Woods package, however are new driveshafts a must???..Don't think shims are going to help me either.
Thanks in advance

The purpose of a SYE is so that you can mount a Double cardin type DS. It is the DS you need to cure the vibes. A stock front drive shaft can be used, thats all a IRO HacknTap is. You also need to shim the axle to correct the pinion angle, with both a SYE and a TC Drop.

The tom woods package uses the advanced adapters sye kit. I ordered the kit from AA and got a used front driveshaft from the junkyard for $20. I plan on grabbing another driveshaft to have a spare.

So I'm still confused on one thing...are you required to change out just the front driveshaft, rear, or both??? Will an SYE and CV rear driveshaft not take care of it?

You need a s.y.e. and a new rear drive shaft. The front gets untouched. What they are telling you is you can use a stock front drive shaft for the rear drive shaft with a s.y.e.. I'm at 6"s and use a RE hack 'n' tap with a 93-95.5 front drive shaft. I also have a 242 and an 8.25. No vibes, spent around $250

okay, get an IRO hack and tap or an RE hack and tap or whatever SYE kit suits your fancy.
grab an extra front driveshaft out of the JY, get some new U joints in it as preventive maintenance and instal.
you do not need to mess with the front driveshaft. just the rear.
shims may indeed be need to correction pinion angle.
