sye question (another one, sorry)

I have 3" of lift on my xj (97 by the way)and I have the vibes. (sounds like a weird std) anyhoo....I am looking for a lower lower priced sye + ds that is still solid. And any other input that you guys ma have. I don't really want to drop $500 but also want it to be done right. Is that possible?

you can measure it directly with a pinion angle finder...or just a angle protractor...but pretty much what it is, is that the pinion shouldn't be at an extreme angle

ya you shouldnt be having a sy problem at 3in... check your rear yoke cause the little keeper tabs on the side car wear down it anything has gone wrong... i had it happen and couldnt figure it out... also if you have the strap style yoke i encorage you to convert it to a u-bolt style.. check partsmike.com for that i have it and feel much better without the strap style.

Does the driveshaft look pretty much straight with the yoke on the rear end? or does it look like theres a angle.
Maybe the shaft needs to be balanced. You said the joints are new.

On a 97 with an NP231, I would think it's just a pinion angle problem. More than likely a 2* to 3* shim on the rear leafs would fix it up or a TC drop. But if you do want a good quality and inexpensive SYE/Shaft kit, click here...

Slight angle and yes the u joints are new. the ds was fine before. could balance be be off with the different angle?
