Question SYE for manual trans. Need help

I've done a few searches on the SYE for the rear driveshaft and every thread that i've seen is only compatible with auto tranny's. Does anyone have or know of a write-up for an SYE compatible with a manual tranny? Any help at all would be great. Thanks

SYE's dont have anything to do with the transmission. It's the mainshaft inside the transfer case that an SYE replaces with a fixed output yoke.

Okay, so all SYE kits are compatible either tranny? I've seen multiple threads and write ups clearly stating that you can only use SYE on an auto with dana 44 rear. Am I reading this wrong?

Yeah, your probably just confused. I'v never seen anyone make that claim.

You order a SYE according to the year and model number of a particular transfer case. Never in my experience (and i'v done many SYE's) where a part# was dependant upon a transmission.

Ah, alright. Thanks for clearing that up.

Oh, also.. on here:

http://www.go.jeep-xj.info/HowtoSYEconversion.htm

It says having a manual transmission and or a D35 will leave a front shaft too short. So I can't use a front drive shaft? If not, will I have to get a drive shaft made?

Thats a custom setup. I can only speculate that Marcus wanted the regular yoke instead of a typical flange associated with most SYE's without paying for a premium kit like the Advance Adaptor kit.

Remember he is in Australia and he's a total tech junkie. He likes to do things on his own vs buying a kit, which is admirable espescially considering shipping to AUS. If your interested in this setup i know he has a long thread on it at www.naxja.org

Theres another kit on the market where in some cases you can use an XJ front shaft by buying the SYE kit from PORC. You can search for this at NAXJA as well. Be forewarned however that quite a few people have had bad dealings with this vendor, whereas some havent.

I personally recommend Tom Woods for an SYE and driveshaft combo. www.4xshaft.com

I just realized what your talking about with the Automatic and D44 or C8.25 rear axle. Thats ONLY if you want to save money by not buying a front driveshaft and use a stock XJ front shaft.

Which is not a bad idea in itself because one spare would work at either end. This is basically the SYE kit that PORC sells.

Sweet. I'll probably pick up a front DS this weekend from the JY and get the SYE kit from PORC next week.

I have a 4.0L, AX-15 manual trans, NP231 transfercase, and Chryco 8.25 axle. 3.5" RE lift, Advanced Adapters SYE.

A front driveshaft from an auto XJ did not fit. I pulled one from a JY for $20 and ended up selling it, it came up at least 1.5" short. I could have had it lengthened for around $100 bucks, but add in the cost of rebuilding the 3 joints and the centering ball, I'd just as soon order a Tom Wood's custom driveshaft for $270 shipped.

I've read that a front driveshaft out of a V8 grand cherokee, (97 or newer?) is about an inch longer than the XJ auto front shaft, so you can look into that. Keep in mind if you have a D35 rear axle your shaft will be longer than mine. Mine has a 34" running length.

See, that's what I keep seeing and hearing. I don't want to pull a front DS and it be too short. I'd buy a custom one but funds are low at the moment. Any one else have any experience with this? Thanks
