slip yolk eliminator...
you need it when you lift your jeep 3.5 inches or higher. you will never need it otherwise. rough country and other big sellers usually sell it with a kit for an extra couple hundred.
some people get it to eliminate drive line vibes or death wobble but if you have a 3inch lift or smaller you can just get transfer case drop kits.
another item instead of SYE is hack n tap which is normally just as expensive.

An SYE doesn't do anything for DW. It simply replaces the factory TC output from a slip yoke to a fixed yoke to cure vibes on lifted vehicles. Once the "slip" is removed from the TC so to say, it has to go somewhere....hence either a new driveshaft or using a front XJ driveshaft...both which will have the "slip" in the shaft. The term "slip" being used figuratively speaking. The cause of vibration of some lifted Cherokees (3-4" and up) is due to the change in pinion angle.
A Hack and Tap IS a type of SYE, just less expensive. Main reason being that instead of replacing the rear TC tailcone with a HD piece and shorter shaft, you cut and tap the output shaft. The argument about which is better is one that's dealt with in endless threads.

the main reason to do sye or hack and tap is to decrease drive shaft angles from lifting the rear suspension and getting rid of the slip yoke in the rear , if you beak a rear shaft with the slip yoke shaft a loss of fluid will be present, unless you have a spare .and yes a front shaft fits in the rear as for it being a stock one that has to do with the amount of lift you are running .
