So, the original piece that was there is gone, so I just fabed this out of tin and hooked the switches there.
It doesn't look that good, but it works and as you might be able to tell, my jeep don't look that good either. lol

I also found out that the piece for mine (at least this is the only place I found it to buy new) is $70. Wish I would have known that before I drilled it....lol
Thanks for the welcome.
Parker, all I did was take off the gear selctor **** and pulled the cover off. It is easy to get off by prying a bit on one side or the other and it pops right off. I made a CAD template and layed it over the portion where the switches were to be mounted and the holes drilled. After centering exactly and measuring, I drilled the holes and put the switches in. I borrowed an idea from Fitchva and used CAT5 cable to run from the switches back to me Fitchva relay box I installed in the cubby in the back.

I like that kit! Never thought of adding a piece on top like that. Will definitely help to negate any interference problems with deep mounting switches.
I saw someplace out on the net where it looked like someone was able to squeeze 10-12 switches to that panel. I have no idea what clearance issues they may have encountered underneath, but your idea would really be beneficial if mounting numerous switches.

Fred..
Console was built from a pre-made unit called 'Shelf-it'. It provided the main frame for the console. I then took a sheet a hard plastic trimming to create a face plate. Fabricated an internal steel frame to support the face plate switch pods etc. Finally covered with matching headliner material. I never did the final finish detail work on this, maybe someday I'll get back to it.
I don't believe they offer a shelf-it for XJ's anymore, but you can still find them on Ebay.

Left to right
Alarm module
GPS (needs to be updated)
Rear PIAA light switches
Bearcat Scanner
Carling switch pod (6 and 3)
Escort radar detector
Rear view video mirror
Modified the original sound bar with external speakers for scanner and Ham/CB radio and added additional interior lighting.
This little project was totally adhoc over a weekend. I needed a place for more switches and that needed morphed into the result. So I don't have any build shots, measurements etc (sorry). As the shelf-it provided the base, most of the time was creating and reinforcing the face plate.
Hope this helps,
Kent
