which switch is which?
Okay, here’s my dilemma. When I start my ’94 Cherokee the temperature light will light at about 120o. This jeep has a new engine, water pump, hoses, thermostat, distributor, etc. We carefully cleaned and checked everything we reused. If it was in question, we replaced it. I’ve disconnected the harness from the switch and with the key on, grounded it, verifying that the circuit is good. My thinking is that the parts guy gave us a sender rather than the switch, thinking that I would get some diminishing resistance with an increase in temperature. However, after researching it, I am still questioning this guess. Does anybody know the correct Mopar part # for the switch (with indicator lights)?
this should work:

you are changing the one at the rear of the engine, not the one by the thermostat, right?

That's what I was guessing too. I went to the switch manufacturer, and they said I had to correct switch. To test all of this, I got the other switch and got the same results (light turning on before thermostat opened). It’s a simple circuit (bulb with normally open switch). So, what else could be causing this? An air pocket in the cooling system would cause the switch to open later, rather than earlier. I’m about stumped.
