Swapped in 703, got check engine light
I've been running 4.6l ford Bosch 710's, they were a nice upgrade over the filthy single hole stockers and I was pleased with them. I got them from a junkyard while searching for the elusive 703 injectors.
On another trip to the junkyard I found 8 703's from a couple on neons, so this afternoon I gave them a thurough cleaning and installed new o-rings and installed them in my 96 xj, on my test drive I noticed the check engine light was on, I reset the ecu and the light was still on.
I then decieded to swap the 710's back in since they gave me no trouble before but the check engine light remains!
Any ideas? Thanks ahead of time.

I dont remember for sure but I feel like I was able to use the key on-off-on-off-on method on the 96 to flash the codes. I know 96 is OBDII but is a hacked together OBDI/OBDII.
But most parts stores will pull the codes for free

Here is a technique that will work for your 96, BUT it will only give you a 2 digit code. The complete code that you get with a code reader or scan tool is much more helpful.
Let us know what you find!
OBDII models (1996 and “SOME” 1997 models) Put the key into the ignition, push down the odometer reset button, then turn the key to RUN with your finger on the button - and then release the button. The odometer will go through 1111111 through 999999, then display the car's serial number. It will then show the 2 digit error codes. The2 digit code is helpful, but it is not as specific as the full PXXXX code, which is only available using a code reader or scan tool, so generally I recommend using the code reader or scan tool. But if you have a CEL and don’t have access to a code reader or a scan tool, try the odometer technique to point you in the right direction until you can gain access to a code reader.

The full on board diagnostic programs are pretty sweet, You can download it for your laptop and buy the cable. It able's you to plug in and watch in real time while you drive.

and did i actually mess something up? If so how do i fix it?
My experience level isnt that high with computer controlled motors, put me on a 2stroke or a 60's bug and I'm a animal, no problem fixing them!
