I'm looking to get more pounds per square inch on the road for snow. They will be my winter tires only.

Ok, that makes sense, then. But if you want to cut through the snow you won't be planning on going through anything super deep, otherwise you'd want to float on top of it.

So if you are just doing light duty snow driving, for anything less than a 2 to 2 1/2 feet, why not go with a cheaper all terrain tire?

i was thinking that a deeper and wider tread pattern would clear the snow better

For deep snow yes, but ATs tend to be better for lighter duty snow.

Buy what you want, I'm just giving you the information I've learned from 10+ years of WI winter driving.
