Default Super Loud Belt Squeal !

50% of the time when I start my jeep the belt will squeal super loud or kinda sound like a chipmunk! Any ideas?? I was going to try a belt dressing in a can and a few told me NO WAY that is crap?

Any Ideas?

Nah its all cool bro, question are free they don't hurt anyone or cost anything. there is a 'tightener' on the front and all you should need to do it give it a few turns. And also, is this a new belt by chance?

Don't know about how to tighten one on a 01 but make sure you tighten it tite. Jeep belts run a little snugger than other vehicles.

You have to loosen the idler pulley just behind the electric fan. Then to tighten it is the adjusting bolt just under the temp sensor right on front of the fuel rail. And just when you think you have it tight enough put one more turn on the bolt and you might have it right enough. Or go to autozone buy a tension meter and make sure it is right.

A Tension guage is $20+/-, well spent, also a new belt if you dont know how old it is is a wise investment, go with a Gates, or Goodyear belt a little extra but well worth it, keep the old one in the XJ as a spare.
