Sunroof Leak
Hey i have a 98' XJ with a factory sunroof (So i'm told...)
Anyway i lately with the rain the jeep has been practically flooded on the floorboard in the front and back along with the seats (Only on the right side of the vehicle), The headliner was absolutely drenched this morning... anybody else have a problem like this? Oh and it seems to happen the most when i'm parking upward on an incline like my driveway.
I really have no use for the sunroof and didn't want it in the first place so you guys think i would be fine with just siliconeing around the weather strip to seal it all up?

I got it in my 98...
Factory sunroof, lol... I've tried everything to stop it from leaking, so much as taking the whole thing apart and sealing every piece with clear silicone, and it still leaks... The only thing that will help it is patching the roof with a section of roof from another XJ.
When the sunroofs were installed, it was too large of a sunroof, and I'm willing to bet if yours is like mine, the rear part of the frame on the sunroof is actually mounted on the roof ribbing that is stamped into the roof from the factory...
Try silicone, or find a donor XJ and get ready for some serious sheet metal and body work.

Wow that's just a horrible design... I'll hit up my step dad he's a sheet metal worker so it might not be a huge problem to replace... but im hoping the silicone works.

I have a 96 sport and my sunroof leaks too...When I first got the jeep I did what everybody else does and siliconed the whole thing and it still leaked...WTF right, well I got a brilliant idea to throw some duct tape up there just to see if it would work, and finally no leaks. Its litteraly been raining for like 3 days straight at my house in tn so I think its actually holding up. If your as desperet (sp?) as me your probally on your way to the garage to get the duct tape now...lol

duct tape... on the inside or outside?
because i'm thinking of just silliconing the entire outside seal of the sunroof because i don't even use it anyway
