Hi, I have a '96 cherokee with a 2000 engine block. I can't get the Temp gage to work and I don't know where to put the temp switch. No hole in the back of the block. Thanks for any and all help.

96 4.0 has two temp sensors one at the back of the *HEAD* left hand side pionts stright up right next to the stud. This is for the gauge and one in the T-stat housing sends info to the PCM to kick on the fans on. I assume you are using a 1996 cylinder head on a 2000 engine block

Default Yes

Jeff, yes I did put a 2000 block and put all the 96 parts back on but I can't seem to figure out where to hook up the switch which was on the back of the 96 block. It's not there on the 2000 block. so the dash gauge doesn't work and the fans don't kick on.
"one in the T-stat housing sends info to the PCM to kick on the fans on. "
The T-stat sending switch is new and should be working.

Any idea where to mount the rear switch?

The sensor in the back screws into the head not the block on a 96. I looked on my 2001 head which is totaly different than a 96 head. It has the boss there in the casting, but it is not tapped for a sensor to screw into.

I checked my 1996 has the sensor screwed into the head.
