Default stupid winch...

okay so my tmax 9000 lb winch is pissin me off. i was tightening the bolts to hold it down and the back two broke, not the bolts, but it literally broke off a piece of the ceramic-looking like backbone of hte winch, essentially its frame. so pretty much its totaled. how the hell did i manage to do that? i was using a regualr 1/2 drive ratchet wrench, no breaker bar or cheater bar... it sucks, plus i cant get the wires right eitehr so the winch wont turn on either, so ive got the steel cable wrapped up around my bumper. if that wasnt enough the brake tab broke off too... i thought t-max was a decent company, but i guess you get what you pay for....

i mean its just like everything else, take care of it and itll take care of you. im sure i over torqued the bolts but i mean come on that shouldnt have happened. but i mean it is a freakin winch, it should be pretty darn durable in my opinion given its purpose in life. Tmax has great prices and the fastest spooling winches around, its not a bad pick, definilty the best way to go if you dont get warn. but if you like to beat the crap out of your stuff id start saving for a warn.

I would give then a call and talk to them yourself, often enough it is harder to say no over the phone then it is over the internet.

Just call and see what they can come up with, if they are a reasonable company they will do something.

i think you might be right. they emailed me back and asked me if i wanted to fix the winch, they said theyd send the parts to do so and pay for shipping. But i fear the frame cant really be fixed, its the back bone of the winch

Did you ask if they could just replace the whole winch as a pretty important part broke?

Any reasonable company will do what they need to so that their reputation stays intact. I'm sure T-Max will do the same. Phone calls are always preferable to an e-mail. Get the persons name that you speak with and document the time and date.
You may have to pay the shipping in one direction or the other but that is a lot cheaper than the cost of another winch. Many companies will also pick up the shipping in both directions but be prepared to pay for the freight in at least one direction.
If you work this out with them that will go a long way for people reading this and thinking of T-Max vs another brand. Any positive actions that T-max takes will be to their credit in the long run.
Post up the results of your phone conversation and we can all hear how T-Max responds to your plight.

Is the tmax main body one piece or two? My milemarker 9k was a two piece with a drum in the middle. I cracked one of the mounting holes (still usable but it concerned me) on the winch and they sent me that 1/2 of the winch for only shipping price. They took good care of me
