i have a 1988 xj with that stupid resistor on the driverside inner fender. the darn thing goes bad all the time. How can i get rid of it all together
Maybe...
Find out what the specs are for it and find a resistor from radioshack or something, solder it inline and wrap it in shrinkwrap and electrical tape..
This would work in theory, dont know if it would work in reality though..

Replace it with a short bit of wire. Net effect? You get a little more fuel pump noise without it (I know. The one in my 88 got wet and cooked off years ago. I didn't bother replacing it - I just patched past it and that saw to that.)
