Default stupid question

I got a 99' xj - Here's the stupid question - the two gaskets at the top of the valve cover - the front one that leads to the air filter - mine looks like a lot of oil residue on it - and I can pull it up about 10mm - is this a problem? thanks

If i understand correctly... you are talking about the Valve Cover Breather Vents and Gromments. If so, it shouldn't be a problem.

If you feel like replacing them, they're cheap and an easy fix.

I think this topic just came up here on a recent thread, so now we can pass this link to you as well...

Hope this helps!

First off the only stupid question is the 1 you never asked! I believe you talking about the blow by tube. Oil build up is very common there... You could always go look through the junk yard for a seal that will fit a little more snug, but it isn't a problem! All it will do is help keep the valve cover clean, but not fixing it won't heart the preformance!!!

oh yeah...

i heard something about allowing vacuum to suck up a few tablespoons full of SeaFoam, it will help to clean up this valve.
