Question Stupid Newbie question

Have a 96 XJ Country, 4.0L I6 160k

How difficult is a basic tune up for an XJ? By basic tune-up i mean plugs, wires, distributor cap, rotor button air fliter(I know how to) PCV valve, thermostat, and radiator flush. Im getting quotes around here from places at around 300-400 bucks for this stuff and decide its time to do it myself. I dont want to run into a situation where I start it and screw something else up, Im mostly worried about the PCV valve, thermostat and radiator flush. I have searched the forum quite a lot but havent found too many answers. Just suggestions to do this stuff on threads but not direct answers on how hard it is, how long it should take, how much it usually costs and any special tools needed. Those are the kind of questions I'm looking for an answer to.

Again college kid newbie, read on here alot just dont respond, love the XJ and want to keep her for another 50k miles.

Any and all insight would be much appreciated

a basic tune up on an XJ with the 4.0L is very easy. You need some basic tools and some time. Picking up a haynes manual can help you with photos of locations of various parts.

The tune up you mentioned. Nothing to it. Of the air filter you you un hook the clasps and drop in the new one. Distributer cap and rotor is pretty self explanatory. Just make sure your plug wires are hooked back up exactly the same. May be easier if you take some tape and a marker to mark each wire and its location. As far as the coolant flush, ill let someone else jump on that one. Thermostat is pretty straight forward also. Just make sure you have the proper container to catch all coolant drained. Its very dangerous for animals. Like j said everything is pretty straight forward and you shouldn't have a problem. If ya do jump on here and well help ya out. Its what we do. PM me if ya wanna talk more about it.

The plugs and distributor cap are EASY to get at, easy to change. My 12 year-old did my plugs the other day.
